Abstract:\u00a0<\/strong>This chapter examines the institutional, discursive, and political economic dimensions of the postwar regime of development. In addition to discussing the twentieth-century approaches to development, such as modernization, dependency, basic needs, and human development, it offers an\u00a0extended treatment of the ideological antecedents of \u201cdevelopment\u201d in natural law theories on property, classical political economy, late-industrialization, and the Mandate System.
